One of the world's most comprehensive databases of videos in every conceivable category, YouTube has taken the Internet by storm. Finding videos on this site is a breeze, as is the downloading process. You don't even need to create an account to view videos on YouTube, although you do need one to upload videos.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer and Internet connection
  1. Step 1

Go to the YouTube home page (see the Resources section below).

  2. Step 2

Select a video from the 'Featured Videos' section on the homepage, or click any of the 'Categories' links for more available options. There are thousands of videos available to view.

  3. Step 3

Click on a video that interests you to begin the download process.

  4. Step 4

Load the resulting page. Your selected video has already begun to download once you do this. The 'Loading' message will appear in place of the video until enough content has been downloaded.

  5. Step 5

Use the pause button, 'II,' to stop and start play.

  6. Step 6

Click and drag the progress bar below the video to skip to a specific portion of the content.

  7. Step 7

Adjust the volume by clicking and dragging the bar next to the sound icon.

  8. Step 8

Choose one of the related videos highlighted on the page to see similar content. You can also search by user, topic or Playlists.

  9. Step 9

Log in to your YouTube account if you have one. Rate the video or save it to your Favorites list by clicking on the designated links.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you have any problems using the site, check out the YouTube Help Center. Click on the link 'Watching Videos' to learn more about viewing content on YouTube.
  • Sign up for an account to access many of YouTube's features. Creating an account allows you to tag or rate videos, upload your own videos and share videos with others on your list.
  • YouTube allows you to make contact lists with specified privacy settings so that you can share personal videos with designated people, rather than making them public to all YouTube viewers.
  • YouTube does not allow users to download videos to their desktops. You must access the YouTube video player through your browser.

on 6/16/2007 horrible tip. The term, "download a video" does not refer to playing the video, but instead it means, downloading the video to your hard-drive. You have not demonstrated how to "download a video", you have demonstrated how to, "play a video".
