One of the biggest fears people have when purchasing a big-ticket item online, such as an automobile, is fraud. Yahoo! Autos is an excellent online resource for buying and selling vehicles, but the site does acknowledge that scams can occasionally occur. Here's the process you need to follow in order to report the problem.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Computer with Internet connection

Step1
Go to the Yahoo! Autos home page (see the Resources section below).
Step2
Access the page you believe is a scam by clicking on the tabs for 'New Cars' or 'Used Cars.' On these pages, you can use pull-down menus or links to listings of cars by make, type or price. Follow the links to the page that contains details of a specific vehicle.
Step3
Copy the Web address (URL) of the Yahoo! Autos page you believe is an offender.
Step4
Note down any additional information about the violation. You will want to be as detailed as possible when submitting your report.
Step5
Access the Yahoo! Abuse Form.
Step6
Fill in your name and email address.
Step7
Use the pull-down menu to report where the abuse occurred.
Step8
Copy the URL of the violating listing into the provided space.
Step9
Provide details on the fraud or scams in the large content box.
Step10
Click 'Send' to officially report the scam or fraud.

Tips & Warnings

  • Before reporting any possible fraud to Yahoo! Autos, gather as much information about the violation as you can, including the user's Yahoo! ID, the URL of the offending listing, and the email address of the violator.
  • For more information on reporting fraud, see the Yahoo! Autos Help pages.
  • Yahoo! Autos advises that one way to help keep yourself save from fraud is to meet the seller before you buy a car.
  • Do not report fraud until you're certain the allegation is warranted. You will not be able to fully retract a report.
  • Scams are particularly prevalent among sellers who purport to be located outside the United States. Be aware that if you are not able to physically inspect the vehicle before you buy it, your chances of being a victim of fraud go up.
