How to Post an Announcement on the Wikipedia Bulletin Board

You can participate more fully in the Wikipedia community by posting news relevant to this Web site on the community bulletin board. This is a forum on which users can post notices, check in on ongoing projects, or suggest new ones.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

• Computer with Internet connection
• Wikipedia account

Visit the Community Portal

1. Access the main page of Wikipedia by clicking on the arrow button from the home page (see the Resources section below).

2. Click on the 'Community Portal' link found in the 'Navigation' menu of the main page.

3. Find notices about Wikipedia articles and news under the 'Notices' section. You will also find listings of new pages in need of contributors.

4. Check out the listings in the 'Help Out' section to find more projects.

5. Join a collaboration team to improve content on Wikipedia. You'll find these listings in the 'Collaborations' section.

6. Get answers to your common Wikipedia questions in the the 'Guidelines, Help and Resources' section.

Post an Announcement on the Community Bulletin Board

7. Click on the 'Post' link under the 'Community Bulletin Board' section.

8. Add your post using the correct Wikipedia format and click the 'Save Page' button when you're through.

Post an Announcement on the Village Pump

9. Click on the link to the Village Pump from the Community Portal home page. This is a discussion forum available to all users of Wikipedia.

10. Select the appropriate Village Pump section for your announcement by clicking on its link. You can choose a variety of sections, such as 'News,' 'Policy' or 'Technical.'

11. Click on the 'Post' link from the section's home page and you will be taken to a page with a text box. Remember to sign and time-stamp your post with your username followed by four tildes.

12. Preview your post before submitting it by clicking on the 'Show Preview' button.

13. Post your announcement by clicking the 'Save Page' button.
