MySpace is a terrific resource for people looking to connect or reconnect with friends and family, but because anyone can use it, it does have its share of bad seeds. Some people are just being mischievous, but others abuse the MySpace community with spam, pornographic images or even outright identity theft. That's why it's important to know how to report abuse if it occurs.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet access
  • MySpace account
  • Computer

    Determine the Type of Abuse

  1. Step 1

Log in to your MySpace account by accessing the MySpace homepage and entering your login information in the 'Member Sign In' box (see the Resources section below). You can also create an account by clicking the 'Sign Me Up!' link.

  2. Step 2

Explore MySpace as you normally would: check emails, read comments, peruse user profiles, etc. Eventually, you may find someone who is committing some form of abuse.

  3. Step 3

Learn what constitutes abuse according to the MySpace Terms and Conditions page (see Resources below). Read the agreement thoroughly so you'll have no confusion about what truly constitutes abuse.

  4. Step 4

Make a note of what kind of abuse you are about to report. Whether someone is spamming profiles or creating false profiles for the purpose of redirecting users to outside Web sites, you're going to need to document it.

  5. Report Abuse to Customer Service

  6. Step 1

Click the 'Report Abuse' link while you're on the page containing the abuse.

  7. Step 2

Type a description of the abuse in the text field labeled 'Message.' Be sure to include a detailed description of the nature of the abuse you are reporting. Also, try to include the name or profile name of the person whom you are reporting.

  8. Step 3

Click 'Submit' once you have finished typing your report.

Tips & Warnings
  • Take time to familiarize yourself with the terms and conditions of use of MySpace. It's important to make sure your claims are valid before reporting abuse, as well as to understand what the repercussions willl be should you not use MySpace appropriately.
  • Don't abuse the reporting system by making false claims. This is abuse itself, and can lead to your banning from the MySpace community.
  • Change your password regularly, as 'phishing' (other people signing into your account) is common on MySpace.
