Instructions

  1. Add a Custom Cursor to MySpace

    • 1

Sign in to MySpace to make additions to your profile (see Resources below). If you haven't already, it's easy to register for a MySpace account with a valid email address.

    • 2

Click on "Edit Profile" to add the proper code your profile.

    • 3

Add the custom cursor code to the "About Me" section and click "Save All Changes." You cannot preview the cursor by previewing the profile or section. Changes that impact styles can only be seen after they are saved as part of your profile.

    • 4

Check out your new cursor by clicking on "View My Profile." In most cases, custom cursors will not show up in all Web browsers. Many effects will only work in Internet Explorer.

    Make Your Own Custom Cursor

    • 5

Open a cursor creation program. Many have a free trial; so you can create a cursor without buying the software.

    • 6

Create or edit a cursor using the software. Use the manual for the program for additional help.

    • 7

Export your new cursor as an "CUR" or "ANI" file. The "ANI" extension is used for animated cursors. In some browsers, a "GIF" can be used; but it doesn't carry over as well as a "CUR" file.

    • 8

Upload your cursor to an online host so you can link to it.

    • 9

Add the proper code to your MySpace profile, making sure to link to your cursor image properly. You can easily add a new cursor to your page from those available on freecodesource.com (see Resources below).

Tips & Warnings

  • If you cannot make your own cursor, there are plenty of free ones available for download.

  • Cursors can be changed to basic symbols, like cross-hairs, with simple "CSS" commands added to your style tags.

  • Using "CSS," cursors can be set to change depending on their action, such as rolling over a link.

  • Check the "MySpace Help Screen" if you'd like more information on customizing your page (see Resources below).

  • Cursors must be hosted on Web sites that allow cursors. Verify that yours does.

  • When using third-party cursors, check to make sure that the added code does not hide spyware on your page or create links to other Web sites.
