It seems everyone is on MySpace, from the local football hero to Miss America. Used to promote movies and tv shows, showcase bands and offer exposure to unknown talent, MySpace has grown into much more than a social networking Web site. Luckily, you can easily get on board because MySpace makes it quite simple to make page for yourself. Follow these steps to find out how.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer with Internet access
  • Valid email address

    Sign Up for Free

  1. Step 1

Point your Web browser to MySpace and click "Sign Up!" to get started (see Resources below). Registration is quick, simple and free.

  2. Step 2

Fill out the basic form requiring your name, email address and birth date. The country you choose will set the language for the site.

  3. Step 3

Smile for the camera. Upload a photo that will initially appear as your main photo. You can always add more photos later and change you main image at any time.

  4. Step 4

Invite your friends. You can skip this step to complete registration, but go ahead and find friends new and old. The more the merrier.

  5. Step 5

Complete registration by verifying your email address. An email will arrive from MySpace Admin with a link you must follow to validate your email address.

  6. Make a Simple MySpace Page

  7. Step 1

Sign in to your new MySpace page to explore the many choices you have to create a layout. The basic MySpace page is simple and clean. You may choose to merely add text to the appropriate fields and let it go at that.

  8. Step 2

Click on "Edit Profile" to add information about yourself. You can also add custom HTML code to the sections to customize the look of your site.

  9. Step 3

Follow the link for "Basic Info" to add an occupation and a physical description. This is also where you can choose why you're on MySpace by marking a checkbox for "Dating," "Serious Relationships," "Friends" or "Networking." These choices can help people narrow their search when looking for new friends.

Tips & Warnings
  • To avoid the possibility of someone hacking into your account, choose a password that's difficult to guess. Try using a combination of letters and numbers.
  • Change your privacy settings on your page to "Private" if you do not want the whole world to see your page. In order to view your full page, a viewer will have to be on your "Friends list."
  • The "MySpace Help Screen" offers tips on customizing your page as well as general troubleshooting information (see Resources below).
  • Your profile may not look the same on all Web browsers. The simpler you make your page, the less likely you will be to encounter problems.
