    Search for Friends on MySpace

  1. Step 1

Log in to MySpace. While you do not have to be logged in for basic searches, you will have more options after you sign in. Plus, you can look at photos to make sure the person is who you are looking for.

  2. Step 2

Click "Search" to get to search page, which offers a range of options for finding someone.

  3. Step 3

Type a name or email address into the "Find a Friend" field. An email address is the most precise method of finding someone, but a search for a name will sometimes turn up a manageable number of results.

  4. Step 4

Filter your results. Using the drop-down country box or entering a postal code will narrow your results.

  5. Find a Classmate on MySpace

  6. Step 1

Log on to MySpace and proceed to the search page by clicking on "Search." While you don't have to log in, you will have more functionality once logged in.

  7. Step 2

Enter the name of a college, high school, elementary school or even a technical school in the School field, which is part of the Classmate Finder box. You must also use the drop down choices to select a country and state. You only need to enter a portion of the school's name.

  8. Step 3

Click on the school's name. Results also show what city a school is in, just in case there is more than one school in your state with the same name.

  9. Step 4

Refine your search with options that include "Years Attended and Major." If you do not get any results, try making your search broader. Not everyone includes complete details in their profile.

Tips & Warnings
  • Try emailing people before you add them as a friend, especially if it's someone you haven't seen in a while.
  • Don't give up too easily--many people use separate email addresses, fake last names and wrong zip codes to add a level of privacy to their account.
  • Try looking at your friends' profiles to find other friends. With a little clicking around you may find that special someone you are looking for.
  • Access the "MySpace Help Screen" for more assistance with finding people on the Web site (see Resources below).
  • As you find more old friends on MySpace, the more they probably know about you. Keep this in mind when you create a password--avoid using names of old schools, hometowns, pets or streets that others could easily guess.
