How to Access Myspace From Work

You may want to connect with your MySpace community at work but find yourself unable to do so. Many workplaces block access to MySpace, restricting workers from visiting the Web site entirely. Fortunately, for those who are determined, there are ways to get around MySpace restrictions, such as connecting through a proxy or installing a completely new browser. Follow these steps to find out how.

Access MySpace Through a Proxy Server

1. Visit your favorite search engine. Type "MySpace proxy" in the search box.

2. Choose a link in the top 10 results. Click its corresponding link.

3. Read through any pertinent information provided on the proxy's Web page. Check for anything objectionable.

4. Type the MySpace Web site address in the proxy's URL box (see Resources below). Click "Browse," "Enter," "Submit" or "Go."

5. Surf the MySpace site through this anonymous proxy server.

Install Firefox at Work to Access MySpace

1. Visit the Firefox home page (see Resources below). Click the "Download Firefox-Free" link.

2. Click the "Run" button in the dialog box that pops up.

3. Click "Next" on the Mozilla Firefox setup box.

4. Select the "Agree" radio button to accept the licensing agreement. Click the "Next" button.

5. Select the "Standard" radio button. Click the "Next" button.

6. Make sure the "Launch Mozilla Firefox now" checkbox is selected. Click the "Finish" button to launch Firefox.

7. Type the MySpace URL in the Firefox address bar (see Resources below).

Tips & Warnings

• Sometimes a particular proxy will fail to work or stop working. If this happens, start the process again with a different proxy.

• Some proxies require registration. However, there are many that allow access without completing any registration tasks.

• You may find that certain Web proxy sites are blocked right along with MySpace. Keep trying different sites until you find one that allows you access on your work computer.

• Typically, Firefox is less vulnerable to restrictions set by system administrators. It also includes built-in proxy connection settings.

• Think carefully and review workplace policies before you take steps to circumvent MySpace restrictions at work. At some workplaces, accessing banned Web sites is grounds for termination.

• Be aware that entering personal information via a proxy server is not a good idea. It's possible that anything you enter can be captured by hackers.
