Prepare to Download MSN Live

Go to the MSN home page and log in to your MSN account (see Resources below).

Know that Microsoft requires a Pentium processor running at 233 MHz, but recommends 500 MHz or higher.

Know that 50 MB of space is needed on your hard drive when installing the program, but only 15 MB of space is needed to run the program after it is installed.

Determine if your computer meets the minimum requirements needed to download MSN Live.

Go to 'Get Live' homepage (see Resources below). Click on the 'Get It Free' button.

Choose to save the program to your hard disk when the 'File Download' dialog box appears.

Select the location on your hard drive where you would like to download MSN live to. Pick an easy to remember location such as your desktop.

Enter a new file name or leave the default file name as 'Install Messenger,' and then click the 'Save' button to begin the download process. The time it takes to download will depend on the speed of your Internet connection.
Install MSN Live

Locate the MSN Live icon on your hard drive. Double click the icon to launch the installation program.

Choose the 'Run' button when the 'Open File' dialog box appears. The contents will then be extracted to your hard drive and the program will prepare to install.

Click the 'Next' button when the 'Install Windows Live Messenger' dialog box appears.

Read the 'Terms of Use and Privacy Statement' and then click the circle next to where it says 'I Accept the Terms of Use and Privacy Statement.'

Click the 'Next' button to proceed with the installation.

Choose the additional features that you would like to install. Unselect the check boxes of any additional features that you don't want.

Click the 'Close' button to exit the installation program when MSN Live has finished installing.

Tips & Warnings
MSN Live requires a computer with Microsoft Windows XP or Windows Vista. It will not work with older versions of Windows or on Macs.
You will need to have Internet Explorer 6 with service pack 1 installed on your computer to use MSN Live. Internet Explorer does not need to be the browser you regularly use, however.
After downloading MSN Live to your computer, scan the file for viruses to ensure the safety of the program before installing.
