How to Change Screen Names On MSN

Your screen name is your online identity when using MSN. Friends and even family will come to recognize you by your MSN screen name on the Internet. If you get around online quite a bit, your screen name will follow you, meaning that your persona on the Web sites you frequent will be dependent on your screen name. In other words, your screen name is special. In most cases, you will not want to make changes to your screen name. However, circumstances do sometimes arise that make such a change desirable or even necessary. If you find yourself in such a situation, you need to know how to change screen names on MSN. Follow these steps to find out how.

  • Account with MSN
  • Computer
  • Internet hook-up

    Get a New Screen Name on MSN

  1. Step 1

    Log on to MSN and enter your log-in information (see Resources below).

  2. Step 2

    Type in your password in the password box on your account page.

  3. Step 3

    Think of a new screen name and type it into the provided box.

  4. Step 4

    Click on "Check Availability" link provided to find out if your new chosen screen name is available. Your screen name can not be one that is already in use by another MSN member. If the name is unavailable, you will be prompted to try a different one. Keep trying new screen names until you find one that is free.

  5. Step 5

    Click on "Submit" when you find an available screen name. You're done! Your screen name on MSN has been successfully changed. Make sure you remember to use it the next time you log in to MSN.

  6. Step 6

    Get the word out. Contact your friends, family and anyone else you deal with regularly online to let them know that your MSN screen name has changed. This way, all your favorite people will still know how to find you on the Internet.
