How to Use LinkedIn To Research A Company

The Internet has become a powerful tool for research in business. With Web sites such as LinkedIn, you can access information as well as personal contacts to add a human element to your research into any company. You can use LinkedIn to search for people who work at the company you're interested in and contact them to get more information about it.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Credit card
  • Computer with Internet connection
  • LinkedIn account

    Look for Contacts in the Company on LinkedIn

  1. Step 1

    Visit the LinkedIn home page and log in to your account (see Resources below).

  2. Step 2

    Look for contacts within the company you are researching by using the "Get Leads" feature on LinkedIn. You can use this on your account's home page.

  3. Step 3

    Enter the name of the company in the "Find Inside Contacts At:" field and click on the "Go" button.

  4. Step 4

    Get in touch with people for whom you have no contact information when you use an introduction from one of your other LinkedIn connections. Click on the "Get Introduced" button on the person's profile page.

  5. Step 5

    Compose a message to the person to whom you wished to be introduced. You should also compose a brief note to the person you are requesting the introduction from.

  6. Step 6

    Hit the "Send" button to submit your request.

  7. Step 7

    Contact connections from your extended network directly when you use InMail. You will need to upgrade your account to a paid subscription to do so.

  8. Find and Read References About the Company

  9. Step 1

    Click on the "People" tab to search for references for a particular company.

  10. Step 2

    Select the "Reference Search" link under the "People" tab.

  11. Step 3

    Enter the company name and the years you are interested in.

  12. Step 4

    Hit the "Search" button.

  13. Step 5

    Upgrade your account to Business Pro account to view references by past and current employees of this company.

  14. Upgrade Your Account

  15. Step 1

    Click on the "Account & Settings" link from your account home page.

  16. Step 2

    Click on the "Upgrade" button on this screen and the next.

  17. Step 3

    Select the plan that best suits your needs by clicking in the corresponding radio button and hit the "Continue" button.

  18. Step 4

    Enter your billing information and hit the "Buy Now" button.

  19. Step 5

    Wait for your payment to be processed before accessing these new features.
