How to Create And Respond To LinkedIn Introductions

Introductions are a useful way to create new connections within your LinkedIn network. You can easily send and respond to introductions through your account. In this way, you can quickly and efficiently create new opportunities for your business or help others by making introductions for them.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer with Internet access
  • LinkedIn account
  • Names of potential introductees

    Set up Introductions

  1. Step 1

    Log on to your LinkedIn account (see Resources below) or set up an account if you are not a LinkedIn member by clicking the "Join Now" button.

  2. Step 2

    Locate the site map from your home page.

  3. Step 3

    Find the "Inbox" category within the site map and click on the 'Inmail and Introductions' link.

  4. Step 4

    Place your cursor over the "Send Message" drop-down menu.

  5. Step 5

    Click on the "Send Inmail or Introduction" link.

  6. Create an Introduction

  7. Step 1

    Read the information provided on "Inmail" and "Introductions."

  8. Step 2

    Click on the "Search now" button.

  9. Step 3

    Search by "Name" or "Advanced Search." If you're searching by "Name," simply input your potential contact's name into the box provided. When using the "Advanced Search," fill all the required fields.

  10. Step 4

    Click the "Search" button.

  11. Step 5

    Review the results for your contact. If you did not find your contact, revise your search name or attempt an advanced search.

  12. Send an Introduction

  13. Step 1

    Click on the contact's name provided as a link. Search through this person's connections for someone you would like to be introduced to.

  14. Step 2

    Find the "Get Introduced" button and click on it.

  15. Step 3

    Select the "Category" of the introduction from the drop-down menu and fill out the "Subject" box.

  16. Step 4

    Compose a message for the recipient you are being introduced to.

  17. Step 5

    Enter a message for the person you are requesting an introduction from.

  18. Step 6

    Preview your request by clicking on the "Preview" button.

  19. Step 7

    Send the introduction request by clicking the "Send" button.

  20. Respond to Introductions

  21. Step 1

    Visit your "Inbox" within the site map.

  22. Step 2

    Locate "InMail & Introductions" link and click on it.

  23. Step 3

    Review the contact information of the person who is requesting an introduction.

  24. Step 4

    Notice if there are any pending introductions in the "Received" link. If so, click on this link.

  25. Step 5

    Respond to an introduction as promptly as possible either by clicking on "Accept" or "Decline."

Tips & Warnings
  • It is a good idea to respond promptly to an introduction. Most introductions can only be of help, and choosing to accept one will most likely enhance your network.
  • When providing personal information on the Internet, be selective of the information you choose to share.
