Craigslist can be an excellent way to sell your jewelry. From costume pieces to antique gems, this online marketplace provides you with a direct connection to millions of potential buyers. Here's how to sell jewelry on Craigslist.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer with Internet access
  • Digital camera

    Post an Ad

  1. Step 1

Go to Craigslist (see the link in Resources below) and click "Post to Classifieds."

  2. Step 2

    Click the "For Sale/Wanted" link.

  3. Step 3

    Choose the "Jewelry" subcategory.

  4. Step 4

Pick a location nearest to your home (or pickup site) from the list provided.

  5. Step 5

Complete the post form, including a catchy yet informative title, an accurate description of your jewelry and your email address.

  6. Sell Your Jewelry with a Smart Strategy

  7. Step 1

Include a picture with your ad by selecting "Add/Edit Images" in the post dialog box.

  8. Step 2

Select the digital image(s) you want to upload by clicking "Browse", and then placing the title of the image in the "Add" box.

  9. Step 3

Include a front and back view of your jewelry when possible.

  10. Step 4

Price your jewelry fairly. If you ask for twice the market value, you are much less likely to get interested buyers.

  11. Negotiate the Deal

  12. Step 1

Be willing to negotiate. If you are asking $200 and someone offers you $100, wait for the next buyer. However, if you get an offer reasonably close to your asking price, you should consider it.

  13. Step 2

Meet in person if possible to compete your jewelry sale. Doing so ensures that you will receive cash for the piece immediately, and you won't have to worry about shipping, handling and insurance.

  14. Step 3

Ship to buyers at their expense and always include the cost of shipping insurance in the selling price.

Tips & Warnings
  • Have your jewelry appraised and its value documented. Having an appraisal done is an added selling point for your jewelry and can serve to justify your price.
  • Keep in mind that postings expire within 7 days, so you may want to repost daily or weekly until your jewelry is sold.
  • If possible, deal only with local buyers for expensive pieces of jewelry. Out-of-town buyers may try to pay using fraudulent money orders or cashier's checks, so completing your transaction in person for cash can save you a major headache.
