Things You'll Need:
- Computer with Internet access
- Digital camera
-
Step 1
Go to Craigslist (view the link in Resources below) and click "Post to Classifieds."
-
Step 2
Select "For Sale/Wanted" as your first subcategory.
-
Step 3
Choose "Furniture" under the next subcategory.
-
Step 4
Select the local area from the list provided that best describes your location.
-
Step 5
Fill in the required green fields of the posting dialog box: title, description and your email address. To protect your identity, Craigslist provides you with an anonymous email address that forwards inquiries to your actual email address.
-
Step 1
Write an ad that highlights the positive qualities of your furniture, but be truthful. If you have a 10-year-old sofa with stains, don't call it "like new." Be honest and disclose any extreme wear or structural flaws.
-
Step 2
Include a picture of your furniture. Ads without pictures are generally ignored because people prefer to see what they are buying.
-
Step 3
Set a fair price. Keep in mind that buyers on Craigslist by and large are looking to get something as cheap as possible, so don't overprice your furniture. Just because you paid $1,500 for it 5 years ago doesn't mean that you can ask even half that amount for it today. Try to keep the price under $500 or even less.
-
Step 1
Remove your ad immediately after you sell your furniture.
-
Step 2
Email buyers who expressed interest in your furniture and politely tell them that the item has been sold.
