Do Your Research

1. Find out if there is a demand for the computers you have. If the market is saturated with your items and there are many ads for them, you will want to set a low price to move your merchandise faster.

2. Research other computers in the same general category as yours. Compare the technical specs, physical condition and shipping costs so that you can set a competitive price for your computers.

3. Visit auction sites or listing sites like Craigslist to see similar ads.

List Your Computers

1. Post a new ad by clicking "Post to Classifieds" on the Craigslist home page (see link in Resources below).

2. Describe your item in great detail by providing technical specifications for the operating system, hard drive, memory, graphics cards, CD/DVD burners and players and included software.

3. Include a photograph of your item when possible. Doing so exponentially increases your ad traffic and the likelihood of a sale.

Negotiate the Sale

1. Work with interested buyers to bring down the price to an acceptable range for both parties. Always have a reserve in mind (a price you won't go below) so that the deal is worth your while.

2. Arrange to meet the buyer in person in public during the day or ship the item at the buyer's expense.

• Include the shipping cost in the price of your computer ad listing to give buyers an incentive to choose to view your ad over similar ones.

• Remember that you only need one buyer. You may receive many offers, but most buyers won't follow through, so don't be discouraged.
