Zyrtec (cetirizine) is an antihistamine prescribed to combat the symptoms of seasonal or perennial allergies as well as chronic hives. As with most antihistamines, Zyrtec can be used for immediate contact related allergies as well as long term conditions like those mentioned above. Here’s how to use Zyrtec.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Zyrtec
  • Doctor's advice

Step1
Know the adult dosage. Daily dosage for people six years and older is a five to ten milligram dose (depending on symptom severity) once a day to be taken with or without food and water.
Step2
Know the proper dosage for children. For children under six the recommended dose is two and a half milligrams of cetirizine syrup and no more than five milligrams per day.
Step3
Determine the correct dosage for your age. For patients over 77, five milligrams once daily is recommended.
Step4
Contact your physician about alternative treatment options if your symptoms do not improve or worsen.
