Protonix is a proton pump inhibitor prescribed to fight acid reflux disease and aid in the healing of stomach ulcers and esophagus erosion that may be a result of acid reflux disease. Protonix does this by inhibiting acid protection in the stomach. Here is how you take Protonix.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Know the dosage: 40 milligrams of Protonix should be taken once daily for treatment and maintenance of esophagus erosion. Protonix may be taken with or without food.

  2. Step 2

Know what to do if you miss a dose. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If you don’t remember until the next dose, do not double your dose, just skip the one from the previous day.

  3. Step 3

Know the side effects. Headache, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting or stomach/abdominal pain are some of the side effects.

  4. Step 4

Contact a physician if your acid problems do not improve. Also contact your physician if the symptoms worsen.
