Many brides and grooms are opting to show pride in their heritage by hosting a wedding with an ethnic theme. Read on to learn how to plan a wedding with an ethnic theme.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

If you are from different ethnic backgrounds, you will need to decide if you will celebrate only one or both cultures.

  2. Step 2

If you decide to celebrate both ethnicities, you will need to decide how you will merge the two before going any further with the planning.

  3. Step 3

Once you have decided how to best incorporate the different cultures, create or choose invitations that go along with the theme.

  4. Step 4

Choose wedding attire that reflects your theme. Everyone from the bride and groom to the flower girl and ring bearer can wear clothing reflecting the culture or combination of cultures.

  5. Step 5

Do some research and discover what wedding traditions exist in the cultures that you have chosen. Incorporate characteristics that you feel will enhance the wedding.

  6. Step 6

In addition to traditions, incorporate the music of the cultures in the ceremony and reception.

  7. Step 7

In the wedding program, explain the cultures being celebrated and why they are being celebrated.

  8. Step 8

Serve food from both cultures (if appropriate) that complement each other during the reception.

  9. Step 9

Have the cake made in the shape of a traditional element celebrated in the culture. If the wedding is celebrating the merging of two cultures, talk with the baker about devising a combination of two symbols.

  10. Step 10

Plan to give wedding favors to the guests that are representative of the cultures celebrated at the wedding.
