If everyone is wearing something different, the guests won't know where to look and may miss the whole ceremony looking at everyone's different costumes.

When planning the ceremony, remember that a wedding is a sacred event. While you can certainly have fun with the theme, you do not want to undermine the intention of the ceremony itself. Save all the wild and funny elements for the reception.
