Identify which operating system your computer is running. If you are using a Mac OS, syncing contacts is done through the use of Address Book. In Windows, you use Outlook Express or Microsoft Outlook.

Go to the official site for iPod. Download the latest version of iTunes that is compatible with your computer's operating system.

Install iTunes. You may need to restart your computer after iTunes installs.

Plug in your iPod with a USB cable. Allow iTunes to recognize the device.
Syncing to a Mac

Go to the "Source" pane and select "iPod." Now, click the "Contacts" tab.

Synchronize your contacts. Turn on "Contact Syncing" and select "Sync Address Book Contacts."

Tips & Warnings
If you are running Microsoft Outlook on a Windows 2000 platform, syncing to an iPod is not supported by the operating system. Newer versions of Windows do not have this problem.
Remember to give Microsoft Outlook access to your iPod when you are syncing up the portable device to your computer's address book.
