If you have ever folded paper to make a hat or airplane, then you have dabbled into the art of origami. Origami models can be really simple or complex. However, there are some fundamental guidelines that need to be followed to make origami models. Read on to learn how to make origami.

Things You'll Need:

  • A square piece of Origami paper
  1. Step 1

    Go to your favorite search engine to look for sample origami patterns and models.

  2. Step 2

    Type in keywords such as "Origami patterns," "Origami models," "Paper art" or "Paper-folding."

  3. Step 3

    Buy or borrow books that teach origami. Search for these books in your local library or go online.

  4. Step 4

    Before attempting to make origami creations, study the steps provided in your origami book.

  5. Step 5

    Practice on a regular paper before attempting to create something with origami paper.

  6. Step 6

    Start with a square piece of paper. Ideally, choose special origami paper, which is available in most craft shops.

  7. Step 7

    Make clean folds and creases. Be careful when folding the corners.

  8. Step 8

    Create patterns by resting the paper on hard surfaces such as a table or desk. This method results in perfect folds and shapes.

  9. Step 9

    Use your fingernails to smooth and press the creases.

on 7/22/2008 Memo cube paper is ideal for learning how to make origami. It is cheap and comes in many colours, however it may be too small for some models. Check to see if the model has a recommended size of paper.
