Proposing is one of those big events. Sometimes you just can't hide it from the girl you're planning to ask to marry you. So you decide to drop hints that there will be a surprise; how can you do it without ruining the surprise? Here are some suggestions.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Plan out your proposal: will you be taking her out to dinner or staying in or maybe even traveling to an exotic destination?
Step2
Figure out what type of hints you might want to drop. Do you want to leave it as having a surprise, or do you want to drop specific hints that imply that something really big is going to happen?
Step3
Planning to take her out to dinner and want to save the proposal for the end of the meal? Consider gift wrapping the ring box and keeping it on the table throughout the course of the meal, while dropping hints about what it might be during your conversation.
Step4
Consider sending an email during the day to say that there's something important that you need to ask.

Tips & Warnings

  • Have a plan before you start dropping hints.
  • Know when you've gone beyond dropping hints; in other words, keep in mind that she knows you well and may see through some of your hints if they become too specific.
  • Be careful not to go overboard: you don't want to scare her or take away from your proposal.
