Sometimes you want to say things directly. Sometimes you want someone to play along and figure out what you are trying to say. If you want her to have to work a little bit for the proposal, why not create a secret code that she must decipher? Here are some suggestions for how to do it.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Write out what you are going to say; this might be the hardest step for you to take.
Step2
The most simple code that you can create is to write the sentence in reverse.
Step3
Want something a little bit more challenging? Write the alphabet forward (from A to Z) on one line and in reverse (from Z to A) underneath it. Substitute the letters of your message with those from the alphabet in reverse.
Step4
Still not quite challenging enough? Write the alphabet from A to Z on one line. Underneath it, write the alphabet in random order assigning a new letter to substitute for each letter of your message.
Step5
Want a code that is particularly challenging? Consider using numbers in the place of some letters rather than just other letters of the alphabet.

Tips & Warnings

  • Double check your code once it has been written to make sure that you are always making the same substitutions.
  • The more complicated your secret code is, the more important it will be to keep a copy of the key.
