Having the right foods at your wedding reception is a big deal: your guests will remember the meal that they were served. Here are some points to consider when you choose the desserts for your wedding reception.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Consider the time of day when your reception will be held. Brunches, luncheons and dinner receptions will all call for different food items, including desserts.

  2. Step 2

How formal will your reception be? The desserts that you consider for an outdoor wedding reception will be different from those considered for a wedding reception that you are holding in a ballroom.

  3. Step 3

Think about who will be attending the wedding reception. If you are having mainly guests who are in their twenties and thirties, your dessert options will be different than if you are having a large number of kids or older guests.

  4. Step 4

Think about the desserts that you and your fiance want to have at your wedding. After all, it's your wedding, and you should be able to have the foods that you want to have.

  5. Step 5

Consider what your caterer offers. Simply put, if the caterer who you are using for your wedding reception does not make a certain dessert, you will not be able to add it to your menu.

  6. Step 6

Decide whether or not you will be having a theme to the menu at your reception; if you are, choose a dessert that fits the theme.

  7. Step 7

Meet with the caterer to taste different options and choose the desserts that you want to have at your wedding reception.

Tips & Warnings
  • While wedding cakes are the traditional dessert, you can choose any dessert that you want to have.
  • Keep cost in mind when you choose a dessert for your wedding reception.
