Step 1
If you are already a member of a church or other religious organization and plan to use the facilities at that location, you may not have a choice of officiants. Generally, the officiant presiding over the congregation will conduct the wedding ceremony.
-
Step 2
If you are going to have the ceremony at a location other than a religious facility, you will need to interview officiants.
-
Step 3
When thinking about interviewing officiants, be sure you know exactly what you would like in your ceremony. Write all of this down on a list.
-
Step 4
Make an appointment to meet with an officiant that you believe will suit your needs and preferences.
-
Step 5
Pay close attention to your first impressions of the officiant. Often, gut reactions can be very accurate.
-
Step 6
Go through each item on your list and write down the officiant's responses.
-
Step 7
Even if you think your list is too long while you are in the middle of the interview, do not cut it short. Keep working through the list until it is complete so that you will have the answers to everything you feel is important.
-
Step 8
Repeat this process with at least two other officiants. Ask them all the same questions and record their responses.
