Once you have your podcast recorded, GarageBand can help you organize it and create extra features to make it the most easy and pleasant experience for your listeners. One thing you can add to your podcast is chapters. This allows them to skip back and forth between portions of your podcast, so if they want to go back and only listen to one part, they don't have to listen to it all over again.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • computer
  • GarageBand software
  • a recorded podcast to work with

Step1
Open up GarageBand and your podcast episode.
Step2
Think about the organization of your podcast episode. Is it long? Do you split your discussion into certain sections? If your podcast isn't very long, it might not be necessary to split your podcast into chapters. Unless there are very obvious breaks. Perhaps your podcast consists of three interviews. Four topics. Use your judgment and common sense.
Step3
Drag your playhead to the place on the audio track that you want to start the section at and click on Add Marker. The podcast track will show your marker, and you can adjust it as needed.
Step4
Another way is that you can create the chapters through the places that you put artwork. If you add an image to display (which you can do by dragging the picture directly into the podcast track on top of the GarageBand window), drag the edges to determine how long you want the image to be shown, and this automatically creates a chapter.
Step5
Once you have this "chapter," you can add art and links to it, so your listeners will have something to look at and/or click on when they get to certain sections.
Step6
Add a Chapter Title by clicking on the Chapter title box. You can also enter information about your podcast, which will display on the iTunes directory, should you decide to submit it to iTunes. Enter a title, artist name, and description.
Step7
Preview the podcast to see that it's working the way that you picture it.

Tips & Warnings

  • Add artwork to your chapters. That way your listeners will have a visual accompaniment to what they are listening to.
  • Also, once you have chapters, you can also add links to the chapters, so listeners can click on a URL to get more information.
  • In addition to the factual information, you can also add advisory information for your podcast--anything from clean (appropriate for all ages) to explicit.
