More for the semi-experienced yoga enthusiast who doesn't need to have a video to watch in order to figure out the positions, a yoga podcast is more accessible and has more room for variety. Imagine someone just being able to go outside next to the beach and the palm trees and following a yoga program, just by having their iPod next to them. You can make it happen.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • knowledge of yoga
  • a microphone
  • computer
  • audio software
  • web server
  • digital tape recorder (optional)

Step1
First step is always organization. Think about how long you want each of your podcast episodes to be. Think about how long yoga workouts are. Do you want it to at a certain level, or do you want to have different options--easy, moderate, challenging?
Step2
Plan out your script. Because yoga is about being free-flowing, keeping your breathing controlled and your movements smooth, the pacing of the script is very important. You don't want to speed through things, yet you want to keep it at a natural pace.
Step3
Record your podcast, either into your tape recorder to be uploaded later, or directly into your computer by hooking up a microphone.
Step4
Turn it into an mp3 file, and afterwards, you can open it with some sort of audio editing software like GarageBand to polish your recording.
Step5
Add music. Music is really important in a yoga podcast. Make sure it's something that is soothing and relaxing, to get your listeners in that meditative, but alert state.
Step6
You can also add art and create chapters. The chapters would likely be separated by warm-up, workout, and cool-down/meditation. The art would just be there to help set the mood.
Step7
Upload the created episode into a server. Now you can either put it onto a website or create an RSS feed for your listeners.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep your voice soft and relaxed while speaking, and be very choosy about your music.
  • Variety is always good when it comes to working out.
  • Remind people once in a while to pay attention to their breathing or to make sure their form is correct. Even if someone has been doing it for years, it's always good to remind them so they can focus.
  • In your description, be very clear about what each particular workout entails, as well as any health risks involved, if any. Make sure your listener knows when to stop, so that they don't inadvertantly harm themselves.
