Astound your friends by lifting your body in the air and appear floating in front of them. Learn the art of levitation or suspending in air which is made popular by illusionists such as David Blaine and Criss Angel. Levitation is not magic, just an illusion that can be created with a few tricks. Here’s how to levitate:

Instructions

Difficulty: Challenging

Things You’ll Need:

  • Shoes (that can be easily slipped on and off)
  • Pants having slits at the leg bottom
  • An object to step up on

Do the Balducci Levitation

Step1
Keep your front side away from your audience so that your back is facing them.
Step2
Stand at an angle in such a way that the audience can see your left foot and heel along with the back of your right heel (about a 45-degree angle to the person's point of view).
Step3
Lift your body up a few inches (3 to 4 inches) with the help of your right toe that you have hidden with your left feet. Lift your left foot and heel up along with your right heel. Keep both the heels together to create the illusion of levitation.
Step4
Remember not to go too high and not to levitate for more than 3 to 4 seconds or they will notice your toes and your trick will be caught.

Do the King Levitation/King Rising Levitation

Step1
Get comfortable shoes that can easily be slipped on and off your feet and attached them to your pants. This is done so that it will hang when you take your foot out of the shoe.
Step2
Get your pant's leg cut from the bottom in such a way that it allows your leg to come out easily.
Step3
Stand before the audience in such a way that you are viewed from the side. Keep an object a few inches away in front of you.
Step4
Slip your leg out of the shoe and step out of the pants via the slit and move your leg forward toward the object. While doing this, remember to redirect the attention of your audience from your feet. This will come with a lot of practice.
Step5
Step up onto the object kept in front in front of you. Ensure that there is sufficient room for you to step up onto that object.
Step6
Lift yourself up a few inches and then drop down. The audience will assume that your foot is in the shoe and you are levitating. While coming down, distract the audience again so that you can step back in your pants and shoes.

Tips & Warnings

  • Practice a lot before you perform it in front of your audience. This trick seems easy but perfection will come only with practice.
  • This method of levitating is an angle-oriented trick where the right audience-viewing angle is critical for its success. So it is preferable that you do in front of 1-2 audience members.
  • Wear wide leg pants that come down just past your ankles. This should help dramatically in covering the other foot.
  • Do not levitate for more than 3 to 4 seconds as the trick may be revealed.
  • Do not announce that you are about to levitate when you are performing the trick. This will warn your audience and they will watch harder trying to uncover the trick involved.
  • Practice a lot before performing the trick before your audience. This method needs a lot of practice to be perfected.
  • Distract the audience’s attention from your feet while steeping out of your shoes and while dropping yourself down or else they may start probing.
  • Learn more about levitation by visiting some of the Web sites mentioned in the Resources section below.
  • Do not hang yourself in the air for too long or you may accidentally reveal the secret to your audience.
