Have you ever been astounded by some of the seemingly impossible magic tricks performed by magicians? Most of these tricks are all about dexterity, presentation and quick reflexes. Here’s how to do magic tricks:

From Quick Guide: Magic for Beginners
Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Begin by learning a few magic tricks. Go online and search in Google or Yahoo by typing keywords such as ‘magic tricks’ or ‘learn magic.’

  2. Step 2

Visit some of the Web sites that are displayed on the results page and learn some of the magic tricks that can be performed by beginners.

  3. Step 3

Start with simple tricks such as card tricks, coin tricks or paper tricks.

  4. Step 4

Collect all the necessary props and supplies you need for performing your tricks.

  5. Step 5

Practice in front of mirror so that you know what your audience will see. Focus on your expressions, hand movements and confidence level. Be as natural and casual as possible.

  6. Step 6

Prepare a glib talk that will accompany your performance. A good opening line as well as casual chitchat during the performance will help you to distract your audience. Remember to practice this several times as being impromptu might end up distracting you instead of the audience.

  7. Step 7

Involve your audience in your magic tricks. For instance, while performing a card trick, invite someone from audience to select a card.

  8. Step 8

Create a suitable environment with dim lights and appropriate sound effects to create a more “magical” environment.

  9. Step 9

Resist the temptation to reveal how the trick works to your audience. Keep them guessing as it will keep them hooked.

Tips & Warnings
  • Bring variety to your glib talk by borrowing anecdotes from current events or personal experiences of yourself or your friends.
  • Plan the seating arrangement of your audience so that you can control their viewing angle. Some tricks require your audience to look straight ahead or your trick would be exposed. So plan this in advance.
  • Try not to repeat same magic tricks for the same audience as they may notice the trick involved and find out that it is not magic after all.
  • Do not try to learn many tricks at once. Practice and get perfect on few tricks first and perform them in front of your friends to know their opinion.
