How to Celebrate Mother's Day Like a Sports Fanatic

Flowers, chocolate, and a thoughtful card are just a sampling of items Mom might expect on her big day. A good mom, though, will realize that it's selfish to have the day focused on her every year--and will accede to the needs of her sports fanatic child.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Take Mom out to see your favorite baseball team in action. If she's not a big fan, get some money from her for your ticket and snacks before having her wait in the car during the game.

  2. Step 2

Give Mom the thrill of a lifetime by letting her pretend to be a professional caddy for a day, as you golf at your favorite course. She'll enjoy it knowing she's making her child happy-and since she's your mom you won't have to tip her a cent. It's a 'win-win' as they say.

  3. Step 3

Many moms love a shopping spree, so take her to a Copeland's or other sporting goods store--where she can buy you new basketball sneakers, team jerseys, perhaps a tennis racket. If you buy free-weights, be cautious about offering to help mother move them out to your car-you could easily strain your back.

  4. Step 4

A nice dinner out will please any mom, so pick your favorite sports bar and live it up on pub grub and imported beers. Remember to 'forget' your wallet, in case Mom is so supremely self-centered she expects you to pick up the check.

  5. Step 5

Write Mom a personalized note card letting her know what a fine mother she's been over the years-and how the only way she could really improve on that would be getting you season tickets for your favorite pro team.

  6. Step 6

Engage your mother in a fun and festive game of Madden Football on your video game console. Since Mom might lack expertise, go easy on her-once you've built a fifty- or sixty-point lead. Hey, you can't be too careful.

  7. Step 7

Have Mom over for a sports video marathon, viewing highlight tapes of all your favorite pro teams. This will be good payback for the time she made you watch "Steel Magnolias."

Tips & Warnings
  • If Mom seems unhappy with your choice of activities for the day, take her someplace that would cheer anyone up-the local bowling alley!
