This is the ultimate guide to looking Goth-mo

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Black hair-dye
  • Bleach (for the adventurous)
  • Pale face powder
  • Lip gloss
  • Black eye liner (liquid for girls, pencil for boys)
  • Black clothes
  • Converse
  • Numerous studded belts and scarves

Step1
Die your hair by following the instructions in the box, or bleach your hair so much it's platinum white. If you bleach, remember to keep retouching the roots or you'll end up looking like a Chav. Emo girls tend to bleach, boys go black.
Step2
Style your hair and cut it if you have to. Boys tend to have a long fringe and a shorter back to the style. Girls tend to have a long fringe too, but their hair length varies from short and pinned up to long/shoulder length, most of the time it's straight and kept neat looking with a skinny headband with a bow on it.
Step3
Now your hair is sorted; make-up time. Sweep your fringe off your face and find a good mirror. Apply a good concealer, the same colour as your skin, cover over any blemishes. A good Emo has clear skin. Lightly sweep pale face powder or talcum powder over your face, remember to go under your chin too, to avoid looking like a clown or evil mime. Some Emo pierce their lips, this looks good on Emo Boys!
Step4
You should look pale now; eye liner time. I claim no responsibility if you poke out your eyes whilst doing this. Boys; draw eye liner pencil under your eyelashes, ensuring it is very close to your lash line. Girls; liquid eye liner says youth, make sure you stick to your lash line and that it's thick too. No swirly shapes or patterns either!
Step5
Your make-up is ready, but you need to dress the part too. Goth-mo is a hybrid of Goth and Emo. So use your imagination. They wear black in vast quantities. Boys; wear a black t-shirt, MCR hoodie or black half-sleeve shirt, with skinny black jeans and converse, make sure you wear a skull-and-crossbones scarf wth the point facing forwards, avoiding the Boy Scout look, and studded leather belts. Girls; wear layers, even if it's summer. Wear a hoodie if you want, band t-shirts, wrist bands and skinny jeans with at the most two studded belts.
Step6
You're almost ready! Cover one of your eyes over with your fringe, fill your bag with poetry and doodles. Emo and Goths tend to be artistic, if your not, complain about not being artistic.

Tips & Warnings

  • Take small steps boys, skinny jeans means less room. Strides result in injury.
  • Wear a shoulder bag, it looks cool and painful. As long as it's covered in badges, which are dirt cheap and cool.
  • Don't worry if people beat you up, it's coz their jealous, apparently.
  • Listen to alternative music.
  • You could be beaten up.
  • Don't use too much foundation or powder.
  • Small steps.

on 10/23/2007 Well written. You've described the look and how to get it. Becoming artistic happens by osmosis because anyone who dresses that way and complains about not being artistic will sooner or later learn the nuts and bolts of writing poetry, expressing him/herself in art, dance, prose writing and many other art forms. It's almost impossible not to be creative in a group of active creative people. If you draw every day, eventually you will be good at drawing.

I find this very cool because I was like that for decades and then suddenly goth came up around me and whoa, the world thinks I'm cool just for being the same old me. I think the black + artistic + creative clothing thing goes way, way back to the Beat and before that even to the Edwardians. Maybe that's why Victorian Goth and Edwardian styles are so cool too.
