How to Celebrate Father's Day in Norway

The origin of Father's Day can be traced down to nearly 4000 years ago in Babylon. Though the way it is celebrated has seen a lot of change, the spirit has stayed the same. In Norway, Father's Day is celebrated on the second Sunday of November. Follow these steps to celebrate Father's Day in Norway.

1. Plan your celebration in advance. Note your dad's likes and dislikes. Make a list of gifts that you can present to him. This will help you in making the day a success.

2. Serve your father his favorite breakfast in the bed or in the way he likes it best. Treat him to his favorite breakfast. Find out what he really likes and fix it for him.

3. Try to make the breakfast yourself to add a personal touch to it.

4. Select a gift for your father carefully. Look out for his favorite accessory or something that he has been planning to buy since long but couldn't buy.

6. Think of an unconventional way to present the gift to your dad. Don't just give it away to him. Leave clues for him about the gift and let him guess.

7. Plan to spend time with your father. It's one of the best ways to strengthen your bond with your dad. Play a game of handball or football with him. If it is too cold for all these activities, go skiing or take a sledge tour.

8. Take your dad out for lunch to his favorite place. You can surprise him by calling his friends over.

9. Consider making his favorite meal at home. Choose from traditional Norwegian recipes like potato dumplings, lamb and cabbage stew, meat cakes and pickled herring.

10. Plan a surprise bash for your father. Chose a theme that your father would like for the party. Call his friends and some relatives.

11. Remember that your dad needs appreciation, too. You can make a card, collage, video or scrap book for him. Acknowledge the role he has played in your life and clear any past misunderstandings.

12. Make the day special for your husband if your children are too young to understand the essence of this day. Help your children do something special for their dad.
