Celebrating Father's Day in Germany started in the Middle Ages. Processions were carried out on Ascension Thursday to honor "God, the Father." In 1700s, Father's Day was celebrated as a day when the entire family got together to honor the fathers in the family. However, in 1900s, religion took a back seat. Father's Day was more like a day-out for the men so they could visit pubs and get drunk. But this, too, is a thing of the past now. Follow these steps to celebrate Father's Day in Germany.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Scrapbook
  • Greeting Card
  • Food including ingredients and recipes
  • Camera
  • Gift
  1. Step 1

Treat your father to his favorite food, in the way he likes it best. You can serve him breakfast in the bed, beer at his favorite pub or dinner at the best eatery in the town.

  2. Step 2

Keep up with the tradition and take your dad to the pub he loves the most. You can even try to set up a bar at home. If you plan to do so, remember to look for brands and flavors your dad likes the most. Serve it in special beer steins or glasses.

  3. Step 3

Invite relatives and friends and plan a surprise party for your dad.

  4. Step 4

Make a list of things your father enjoys the most. It could be fishing, going for a picnic, playing or watching his favorite game or any of his hobbies. Try to include these in your day's plan.

  5. Step 5

Pamper your dad with gifts. You can look for something that you know he has been wanting for a long time but hasn't got it yet. It could be a holiday, enrollment into his hobby classes, any gadget or even a special flask. This might require you to plan a little ahead of time and study his passions and hobbies. But remember, it's worth it.

  6. Step 6

Can't think of the right gift? You can search for and order a gift online (see Resources below).

  7. Step 7

Think of unconventional ways to present the gifts. Place the gifts where he expects them the least. You may even set up a treasure hunt for your dad.

  8. Step 8

Remember that your dad needs appreciation, too. You can make a card, collage, video or scrap book for him. This can help you acknowledge the role he has played in your life and clear any past misunderstandings.

Tips & Warnings
  • Include all the fathers and expectant fathers in your family in your special Father's Day bash.
  • Take photographs throughout the day and use them on the next Father's Day.
  • If you are a mom and your kid is too young to plan all this, plan the day for your husband to tell him how wonderful he has been as a father.
