Step 1
Plan your day in advance. Think of all the potential ways to celebrate the day. You probably wouldn't want to have a day-out with your dad alone. Neither would he. Look for a way that involves lots of friends or at least the entire family.
-
Step 2
Make a check list of things you can do. Think of all the ways in which you can surprise him. Think of organizing a barbecue, a picnic or a family outing.
-
Step 3
Start your day early. Fix breakfast for your dad. You can make something he likes but can't have often due to his busy schedule. You could fix a typical Australian breakfast that includes assorted cereals, toast, fruits, eggs, fried bacon, mushrooms, sausages and tea or coffee.
-
Step 4
Serve the breakfast in the way your dad would like it the most. It could be in the bed, on the porch or even out in the garden.
-
Step 5
Choose a gift for your father with great care. Look for something unusual that would surprise him for sure. It could be a holiday he has been planning, his favorite gadget or even his favorite accessory.
-
Step 6
Can't think of the right gift? You can search for and order a gift online (see Resources below).
-
Step 7
Think of an unconventional way to present the gift to your dad. Don't just give it away to him. Leave clues for him about the gift and let him guess.
-
Step 8
Take your dad out for some large or popular event happening in your city.
-
Step 9
Treat you father to his favorite food. Serve it in the style he likes the most. Try to cook the food yourself to add a personal touch.
-
Step 10
Plan a surprise bash for your father. Chose a theme that your father would like for the party. Call his friends and some relatives.
-
Step 11
Remember that your dad needs appreciation, too. You can make a card, collage, video or scrap book for him. Acknowledge the role he has played in your life and clear any past misunderstandings.
-
Step 12
Make the day special for your husband if your children are too young to understand the essence of this day. Help your children do something special for their dad.
