Things You'll Need:
- Phone
- Computer with Internet service to plan your trip
-
Step 1
Reserve your lodging online at The Canyons website (see Resources below). You can also book by calling the resort directly. Choose from a variety of fine lodging properties just steps away from the slopes.
-
Step 2
Book a room at the slope-side AAA Four-Diamond Canyons Grand Summit Hotel which offers hotel rooms, 1-, 2- and 3-bedroom suites, studios and exquisite penthouse options. Each accommodation includes fine amenities and first-class service. Expect rates to be moderate to expensive.
-
Step 3
Reserve a 1- or 2-bedroom condominium-style room at the on-site Sundial Lodge for superb accommodations and a centralized location within the Canyons Village. Parking is underground and ski lockers and storage are available. All activities on the mountain and at the village are within walking distance of the lodge.
-
Step 1
Download a driving map from The Canyons website. Click the 'On The Mountain' tab from the homepage, then scroll down the menu to Maps and click on the 'Driving Map' link. Print out the map to carry with you for a reference once you arrive in Utah.
-
Step 2
Fly into the Salt Lake City International Airport, which is a short 35-minute drive from The Canyons Resort.
-
Step 3
Take the shuttle, catch a taxi or rent a car from the airport. The shuttle is the least expensive option, but if you would like the freedom to commute at your own pace, a rental car is a great idea. Refer to your downloaded Canyons driving map if you decide to venture to the resort on your own.
-
Step 1
Prepare to dress for extremely cold weather during your trip. Basic garments should include water- and wind-proof outwear, such as ski pants or bibs and coats. Pack warm socks, thermals and a hat or ear warmers. Eye protection is a must as the sun can wreak havoc on your eyes and even cause severe burning.
-
Step 2
Review the online trail map to familiarize yourself with the layout of The Canyons Resort and mountain. You will easily navigate the mountain if you have a general idea of where everything is before you arrive.
-
Step 3
Participate in ski school to learn how to ski or update your skills. There are a variety of inexpensive schools available, ranging from adult and children to women-only classes.
-
Step 4
Absorb the breathtaking view overlooking the mountains and Utah panorama while enjoying a sky-high gourmet lunch or a sit-down coffee break at The Cabin, located at 9,000 feet on the Grand Summit.
-
Step 5
Read the current ski report on the homepage of the resort's website.
