How to Book Train Travel From Barcelona, Spain to Milan, Italy

1. Book moderately priced tickets from Barcelona to Milan via the RENFE Web site (see Resources below). The Trenhotel 11273 (also known as the Talgo Night service) leaves the Barcelona train station on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. The trip to Milan is about 16 hours.

2. Print a confirmation page with your car and seat numbers and a "'localizer." Have this confirmation for the conductor when you board and your ticket(s) will be issued then.

3. Find out if anyone in your party is eligible for a discount. Senior citizens and youth may get lower fares.

Tips & Warnings

• Be aware that the Stazione Centrale (Central Train Station) in Milan has been undergoing renovations since June 2006.

• Stay in well-lit areas and near the crowd when you arrive at the station in Milan. It's is not the best part of town.
