Tips & Warnings
Tahiti's official tourism Web site allows you to submit requests, but you cannot book your accommodations on the site.
If staying at a hostel, put your clothes and personal items in a locker.
Most hostels, camping facilities and small hotels do not accept credit cards. Local currency, the French Pacific franc, will be needed.
Wear good shoes and expect to do a lot of walking.
In most places, tipping is not required.
Take sunscreen.
Bring light clothes and a raincoat.
Eat at local establishments for a cheap alternative to hotel restaurants.
Exchange your money at a bank or the airport. Do not use local ATMs.
Take a credit card. Credit cards get a better exchange rate at the bigger hotels.
Do not plan on getting married in Tahiti, as only citizens can exchange vows.
Only drink the water in the cities. In smaller towns, purchase bottled water, because the tap water isn't safe to drink.
