Arizona currently hosts several events that have become imbedded in its Fourth of July tradition. If you’re looking for special ways to celebrate Independence Day in this state, here are some suggestions.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Join the mailing list for the Community Information and Referral Service to acquire a list of Arizona Independence Day celebrations, or visit the CIR Web site in May to find events in your area (see Resources below).

  2. Step 2

Start the day with the annual Fourth of July parade in Clarkdale on the banks of the Verde River, and then enjoy a barbecue lunch at the train station before boarding for a four-hour ride through the desert.

  3. Step 3

See the fireworks in Phoenix. You’ll find the schedule for fireworks displays in the town's Web site, or in a local newspaper. Arizona is a state where fireworks are legal, so there's lots of celebrating.

  4. Step 4

Attend the Greater Phoenix Swing Dance Convention. Join other dancing enthusiasts for the annual four-day convention over the July Fourth weekend.

Tips & Warnings
  • Plan your day in advance to make sure that you have tickets for events that require admission or that have limited seating.
  • Bring plenty of snacks and drinks for the kids if you’re attending day-long celebrations.
