How to Include Fireworks Safety in Local Safety Events

Including fireworks safety information at local safety events is fun and a great community service. If there is a holiday coming up that is usually associated with fireworks, such as 4th of July or New Years, some safety advice is probably appreciated. Use the following ideas when thinking about how to share information on fireworks safety at a local event.

• Contact information for organizations holding safety events

1. Identify community agencies and organizations that have a focus on safety, such as fire departments, community health departments, public safety entities, public schools, child care centers, hospitals, doctor’s clinics, Chamber of Commerce, community churches and service organizations.
2. Contact these organization and agencies to determine if they are planning safety events where you can set up a booth or distribute fireworks safety information.
3. Develop a calendar of events to plan, organize and coordinate how information will be disseminated.
4. Decide what information you want to provide during the event.
5. Decide how you will spread information at the event. If you are going to have a fireworks safety booth, plan if you will use a table or have a professional exhibit booth. If the event runs over several days, you may need to have a list of people who will disseminate information and the times they are to be at the event.
6. Gather and/or prepare all the information that is to be distributed at the event. If you are going to use a table to disseminate information, you may want to think about having a table cloth and stands to hold information upright making it easier for people to see what you have to offer.
7. Coordinate who will hand out information if there is not going to be a booth.
