Getting a job at the New Orleans Jazz Fest could be the best of both worlds: actually get paid to listen to music, eat exotic food, and look at half-naked women, or men, depending on who you are. Of course, you’re going to have to be doing some actual work during that time but still it’s a great place to have a job.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • A resume or press kit
Step1
Go to the New Orleans Jazz Fest website (www.nojazzfest.com) for an employment application and address. Or else call the job line: (504) 410-6136.
Step2
Think about volunteering. A great way to experience the Fest. Think of it as a way to get free tickets—you’ll be saving hundreds of dollars. Either write volunteers@nojazzfest.com or call (504) 410-6129. Also check the website for a mailing address and PDF application. There are hundreds of volunteers every year soaking up the heritage.
Step3
If you’re a band looking to perform at the Jazz Fest, you’ve got to get an application in between Sept. 1 and Oct. 15 the previous year. Must be a Louisiana band. Submit a CD and press kit.
Step4
Craft booths have a December deadline the previous year. Write attn: Craft Department.
Step5
Food booth applications also need to be submitted the previous year. Write attn: Food Department.
Step6
Journalists can also get a free ticket in: submit a letter of assignment, a publication, and the days you plan to cover the Fest—i.e. you need to prove you’re an actual journalist, not some guy who’s going to write a blog entry.

Tips & Warnings

  • In all of the above cases, apply early. There are only so many spots available.
