Step 1
Determine the type of ceremony you have. The type of ceremony determines the location and the type of officiant you will have.
-
Step 2
If you are already a member of a church and will be marrying in that church, a priest serving that church will more than likely perform the ceremony.
-
Step 3
Sometimes churches will allow a priest who does not work at a church to perform a ceremony. However, these instances are very rare. Be sure to check with the church office for regulations on this matter.
-
Step 4
When considering a priest, you will need to discuss his or her beliefs concerning marriage and each person's role in the marriage. These beliefs should align with yours.
-
Step 5
Choose a priest both you and your intended are comfortable with. If you are not comfortable with the officiant, awkward situations could arise.
-
Step 6
If you come from different faith backgrounds, it is acceptable to have two officiants representing two different faiths at a wedding. Again, be sure to check on church or other location policy and communicate your wishes to the priest at the very beginning of the meeting.
