There is more reality than cliche in the phrase "You only get one time to make a first impression." You need to make what others see in those first few moments count. There is a way to enter a room so that you are noticed and so that you appear confident and dynamic.

1. Making sure you look your best is essential when you want to make an entrance. Whether you're going in the doorway, you want to be noticed in a positive way. Your entrance should make a statement. Wearing an outfit that makes you feel great and is appropriate for the occasion make people see you. Pay careful attention to hair, makeup, nails and clothing choices because when you feel like your best, everyone else takes notice.
2. Before walking into the room, stop and take a deep breath. Make sure that your posture is good -- stand up straight with your shoulders back but don't overdo it -- you don't want to look stiff and approachable but relaxed and confident.
   
   
3. Relaxing is the key. Relax the muscles in your face. Tension tends to collect in the muscles of our faces making us look tense and tired. Consciously relax your jaw. Do this by parting your lips slightly and taking a deep breath, feeling the tension leave. Make sure that your forehead is also relaxed and not furrowed with tension.
4. Always make sure you have a smile on your face. You just want a relaxed happy smile, not a Cheshire cat grin, which also makes you look tense and uncomfortable.
   
   
5. Survey the room. When you walk into the room, casually look around like someone would if they were the chairperson or hostess. This will give you an air of confidence and relaxed control.
6. Looking others in the eyes is a sign of confidence. Make eye contact as you look around and smile a bit more as you look at those who are there. It makes people feel important when they are acknowledged by someone coming onto the scene.
