The 4th of July is one of the most celebrated holidays in the United States, with many events taking place in its honor. Parades are very common, and one of the largest and most extravagant of the 4th of July parades is one held in New York City and sponsored by Macy's. Attending this parade is a real treat!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Hotel reservations
  • Dinner reservations (optional)
  • Lawn chairs
  1. Step 1

Make hotel reservations. The fancier the hotel, the sooner you'll need to make the reservations. It's a good idea to do so at least six months in advance.

  2. Step 2

Make arrangements for meals. Depending on how many days you'll be in the city, you might need dinner reservations at restaurants.

  3. Step 3

Pack lawn chairs in addition to everything else you'll need for a short trip to NYC.

  4. Step 4

Drive into the city the night before the parade, if not sooner. Many streets will be blocked off for the parade and busy due to holiday traffic, so getting there the night before will save time and hassle.

  5. Step 5

Claim your seat at least two hours before the parade begins. If you do not get a spot you'll have to stand to see the parade. If you want a seat closer to the stage at the end, you'll need to arrive even sooner.

  6. Step 6

Bring weather-appropriate items. This includes umbrellas if it is rainy and plenty of drinking water if it is hot.

Tips & Warnings
  • Have a back up plan for the day if it rains.
  • Make sure you arrive at your restaurants at least 15 minutes before your reservations or they may give your table away to others who are waiting.
  • Wear sunscreen at the parade.
  • Make sure to watch small children at all times.
