The legal process of getting married is a hassle. With every county’s marriage license laws being a bit different from the others, it can seem like a real paper chase. Here are some steps that will help you get married in Minnesota.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Marriage license
  • Wedding planner
Step1
Decide which county you would like to get married in. Every county’s rules will vary so it is very important to know which county you will be getting married in ahead of time.
Step2
Consult a wedding planner in the area you have selected to help you prepare for the ceremony and related necessities.
Step3
Apply for a marriage license. You will need to present both parties’ identification, birth certificates, tax information and other legal documents depending on the county.
Step4
Arrange for someone to perform the ceremony. There is always a waiting period before you can get married after having applied for a marriage license. This will give you time to make any final arrangements.
Step5
Enjoy your wedding ceremony and your honeymoon.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you have been married before, you will have to prove that your previous marriage has been dissolved, whether through legal action or death.
  • The legal age for marriage without parental consent in Minnesota is eighteen. Younger people may get married with parental consent and in some cases with a court order.
  • You do not have to be a resident of Minnesota to get married there. However there may be an additional charge for applying for a marriage license for non-residents.
