How to Make a Transparent PNG With Paint Shop Pro

You can take any picture or photo file you have and with some cropping or erasing of the background, create a transparent PNG with Paint Shop Pro. It’s best to use PSP 7.0 or higher to create a transparent PNG.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A computer
  • Paint Shop Pro version 7.0 or higher.
  1. Step 1

    Open your image file.

  2. Step 2

    On your “Layer Tool Box,” right click on the “Background.”

  3. Step 3

    Select “Promote Background Layering.”

  4. Step 4

    Erase the parts of the image that are no longer needed, either using the select wand or your eraser. Ensure you are careful around the edges of the image.

  5. Step 5

    Click on “Layers” then “Merge” then “Merge Visible."

  6. Step 6

    Click on “File” then “Save As.”

  7. Step 7

    Select a name for your image.

  8. Step 8

    From the pull down menu in the save area, select PNG.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you are erasing the background using the magic wand, select and cut the background images piece by piece.
  • If you are using the eraser to erase the background, select “background eraser” before beginning to erase.
  • Be careful around the edges of your image—clean up the image edges by zooming in and using a small eraser.
