Dulce de leche is an incredibly delicious treat made with sweetened condensed milk-and nothing else. Naturally this is extremely easy to make, and it's suitable for use with a wide variety of deserts.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk
  • A pot
  • Can opener
  • Water
  • Sweetened condensed milk
  1. Step 1

Remove the label from a can of sweetened condensed milk.

  2. Step 2

Use a can opener to poke 2 holes in the top of the can.

  3. Step 3

Put the can in a pot, and fill the pot with water until the water level is around 1 inch from the top of the can.

  4. Step 4

Put the pot on the stove and turn the heat up until the water begins to simmer.

  5. Step 5

Let the can simmer for 2 to 4 hours, depending on whether you want your dulce de leche to be liquid or solid.

Tips & Warnings
  • Check the pot frequently to make sure all the water doesn't boil away.
  • Dulche de leche is delicious eaten with bananas or banana pudding, as an ice-cream topping, in cheesecake, or in just about any desert that uses caramel or toffee.
  • Keep a close watch on the can. Don't let all the water boil away, and if the can begins to expand remove it from the heat immediately.
