Create an RSS file for your Podcast using FeedBurner

So you've made your podcast and published it on a blog. However, many blogs (like Blogger.com) only provide an Atom News Feed. For podcasting, often you need to have your audio files in an RSS 2.0 feed to share it (for example, in iTunes). A simple way to create an RSS 2.0 feed for your podcasts is by using FeedBurner (a free service that translates your Blogger Atom feed into a RSS 2.0 feed).

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • computer
  • internet connection
  • a completed mp3 of your podcast on your server
  • an Atom News feed created by Blogger.com or another blogging service
  1. Step 1

    Go to www.feedburner.com.

  2. Step 2

On the top of the screen, it'll say "Start FeedBurning Now. Type your feed or blog URL below." Enter your Blogger Atom Feed URL and select next.

  3. Step 3

FeedBurner will return with an Options screen. Select the SmartCast option.

  4. Step 4

Double check that the "Burned Feed Title" and "Burned Feed URL" that automatically come up are what you want them to be.

  5. Step 5

Click next, and you'll be prompted for a User Name and password to sign up.

  6. Step 6

When that's done, a welcome/confirmation page will pop up. Here, you will be able to click on the button "Activate My Feed." The feed URL will be "http://feeds.feedburner.com/yourtitlehere."

Tips & Warnings
  • You can check that your feed URL is activated and working by going to Feed Validator at http://www.feedvalidator.org. Just paste your URL, click "Validate," and it should respond with whether the RSS feed is valid or not.
  • In addition, FeedBurner can also be used to track your content and promote your podcasts.
