When taking pictures, it is important to remember even the most basic techniques. Demonstrating good form starts with how you hold your camera.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • A camera

Step1
Place the camera in the palm of your left hand.
Step2
Use the thumb and index finger of the same hand to grip the focusing ring on the base of the lens.
Step3
Place the palm of your right hand against the right side of the camera body with the index finger resting near the shutter release button and thumb on the camera's back.
Step4
Look through your viewfinder with the camera resting against your forehead to help steady it, and your left elbow held in against your body as well.

Tips & Warnings

  • It is best to use a tripod when shooting with slow shutter speeds or in low light environments, these settings require the camera to be in a more stable position.
