For music lovers on the move, an Archos Gmini is a great multimedia device because it allows you to bring your files anywhere. With the use of the Windows Media Player, it is easier to sync a music collection to your device. Take the following as a simple but helpful set of guidelines on how to sync your music collection to an Archos Gmini with Windows Media player.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Archos Gmini
  • USB cable
  • Computer

Step1
Check out your computer's specifications. Here are the system requirements a PC needs to be compatible with your Archos Gmini--an audio card, a video card, at least 100 megabytes of hard drive space, Windows XP OS or newer and a CD-ROM drive.
Step2
Turn on your personal computer. Open Windows Media Player on your PC.
Step3
Get the USB cable that came with your Archos Gmini and plug it into the player. Without the USB cable, there is no way to sync your music collection on your computer to the portable music player.
Step4
Attach the cable to your PC. Check the orientation of the plug before forcing the cable to fit.
Step5
Open Windows Media Player. Choose the Sync option for your music when you are prompted to do so.
Step6
Select between a manual or automatic setup. With a manual setup, you will need to select the songs that will be synced. With the automatic setup, the Windows Media Player syncs everything in your music library to your Archos Gmini.
Step7
Click on OK to begin the sync process once you have selected the songs you want.

Tips & Warnings

  • The automatic setup can be customized to sync only certain folders, rather than the entire contents of your music library. Use this function to help you keep track of the files on your Archos Gmini.
  • Earlier versions of the Windows Media Player may not be completely compatible with the Archos Gmini portable music player. The most recent version of the application is available from the Microsoft download site (see Resources below).
  • Unlike Windows Media Player, the Archos Gmini does not accept all file types. Check with your owner’s manual for information about supported file types.
