Weddings can be very expensive, and not just for the couple and their families. There are costs for a groomsman as well. It is very common for a groomsman to rent their own tuxedo for the wedding. This doesn’t mean that you all can’t save money. There are a few things you can do to save money on a groomsman’s tuxedo.

From Quick Guide: Wedding Planning 101
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Start looking for the tuxedo as early as you can. The closer you get to the wedding, the harder it will likely be for you to find a good deal on tuxedo rental. If the wedding is during wedding season, the prices can get even higher.

  2. Step 2

See if you can borrow a tuxedo from someone who owns one. If you have a friend or relative that already owns a tuxedo and is similar in size to you this can be a great way to save money on a groomsmen’s tuxedo.

  3. Step 3

Save money by wearing your own shoes. Avoid renting shoes when you rent a groomsman’s tuxedo. When you have a pair of black dress shoes or know someone who does in your size, this can be a great way to save a few bucks.

  4. Step 4

Go with the rest of the groomsmen and the groom to get a good deal on the groomsmen’s tuxedos. Tuxedo rental shops offer deals when you rent multiple tuxedos at once.

  5. Step 5

Check online for deals on tuxedo rentals. There are even mail order tuxedo rentals available. The Internet tuxedo rental shops usually offer a sizable discount when renting the groomsmen’s tuxedo.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure the groomsmen’s tuxedos are uniform to that of the groom. Ask the groom what style tuxedo you should rent.
  • If the wedding is in the summer it may be a good idea to rent an extra shirt for the reception. This way you will not be walking around sweaty all night.
  • Watch for coupons in the newspaper for discounts on tuxedo rentals. Have the bride and bridesmaids watch for coupons at the bridal shows if they attend them.
  • Don’t get talked into renting the most expensive tuxedo from the rental shop. Most rental shops are very honest but someone may try to rent you the most expensive tuxedo in the store.
  • Be careful if you rent from online rental shops. Know your exact size and rent the tuxedo early in case you have to send the tuxedo back.
